In this day & age of communication where more & more services are provided via the internet [Cloud Services] good security practices are a must. The following are good security practices which you should learn & put to good use now with your SEN/PSN accounts as well as others accounts.

--Convenience is the enemy of Security--

  • Make Use of Long & Strong Passwords.
    • A strong password is made of letters, numbers & symbols. The longer the password the better. I recommend a 14 character minimum.
    • Do not use this password on any other online service that you make use of, let alone, with the same email associated with your SEN/PSN account.
    • Do not make the password easily relatable to you for the more people know about you [your likes, the things you post about yourself, etc] can help others guess your password. Social engineering is real so don’t make it easier than it needs to be nor more than it already is.

  • Secure All Angles.
    • When logging into your account from a web interface, make sure the connection is secure. Always make sure the connection is successfully stablished via HTTPS. HTTPS ensures the connection is encrypted & between the two intended points.
    • Make sure the answer to your SEN/PSN account password recovery question something only you would know.
    • Do not share which email is associated to your SEN/PSN account. In doing so you’ve given one security factor away.
      • I suggest using a different email for your SEN/PSN account than the email you socially share on your blog, website, etc.
    • Make sure the email account associated to your SEN/PSN account is as secure as possible.
      • Use a strong password long password
        • Do not use the same password from your PSN account. Don't do it.
      • Enable 2-factor authentication.
      • Use a good & solid authenticator like Google Authenticator to get your verification codes.
        • Authentication codes sent over SMS should be your last resource.
      • Make sure the answer to the password recovery questions are something only you would know.
      •  Keep printed 2-factor authentication verification codes safe & secured.

Furthermore, do not share your account credentials with anybody you wouldn’t trust your life with. If said account holds deep value for you, the moment you share your account credential with someone, said person becomes a potential security weakness. This is including the medium used to share the credentials. Not everybody know the value said account holds for you nor will they be as security concious as you are.

Using a Friends PlayStation System

PlayStation 4

On a PS4 use the Play as Guest interface to login to your SEN/PSN account. You will have access to your PSN library, trophies earned during a guess section will be recorded [sync trophies to be sure] Furthermore, you can upload said game gamesave file to your PS+ cloud [Active PS+ subscriber required] Once you sign off the session will be deleted from the system.

PlayStation 3

On the PS3 there is no Guest Login Option. You would have to create a User Profile & then login to your SEN/PSN account.

Do not have the system remember your password. Once you are done, upload your gamesave file to the cloud [Active PS+ subscriber required] sync your trophies & delete the user profile. Deleteing the user profile will delete all date within it, downloads, gamedata & SEN/PSN account, etc.

--Encryption, trust & lack of Convenience are key.--
