My cousin put in a nonexistent email help please

So heres the situation. My cousin somehow logged himself out of playstation network. We went through the usual steps and sent a change password email to the account. For clarity let's call that email1. This email belonged to his dad. So we change the password and all is well and we can continue with our lives.
However, I suggested that he change the email address associated with the address so that in the future if he ever forgets his password he won't have to bother his dad about it. So he goes to settings and changes the account to his personal email, *Edited*. The problem is, that email doesn't technically exist. He's not the smartest kid.
But according to what I'd skimmed before we chose accept, in order to complete the process a verifIcation email would be sent so that we got a verification code. And so the email was supposedly sent to an account that doesn't exist and now we're stuck.
Does anyone know what to do?
