Brother cant play Overwatch on second profile

So my younger brother was playing overwatch today and when his turn was up it was my turn to play. When my turn wnded he suddenly was not able to play any multiplayer and whenever he tried, an ad popped up for a PS+ subscription even though I already have a ps+ subscription on my profile already.
Did Sony all of a sudden make it so all profiles on a PS4 have to have a ps+ subscription to use online?
Why?
