Banned after 6 years

So, recently I recieved an email that said that I was banned from PSN regarding the inappropriate nature of my online ID. Now I've been a playstation plus member for 3 years now, and I have atleast 7 years of gameplay, trophies and experiences from both the PS3 and PS4 on this account. I understand that my online ID is inappropriate, but to be honest, there's way worse names out there. What I don't understand is why my account got banned for it after being registered under the ID for so long, and not a short time after I signed up. I really don't want to have to complete everything that I've already done over again, so I need an answer to this question. Can I change my PSN online ID because of the violations? I know it seems like an odd question that would probably have an obvious answer of "No" but there has to be some way that I can keep all my progress. I'm an active PC and console gamer and would like to stay this way, but I really need to keep the progress I already have. If there isn't a way to change my PSN online ID, might there possibly be a way that I could copy the online progress I have, make a new profile, then use that progress on the new profile???

Thankyou for atleast taking the time to read this, though it is my fault for producing this issue I don't believe that I should lose 7 years of hard earned progression in so many different games.
